A Dubai visa is the common travel term for a UAE entry visa used for tourism or a short visit. It is not a city-only document: when a UAE tourist visa is issued, you can generally enter through Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah or another approved UAE port and travel across all seven emirates.
Most tourist applications are processed as electronic visas. The approved document is delivered by email — check the passport number, name, validity and entry conditions carefully before you fly.
Dubai visa vs UAE visa
Travellers use both phrases for the same thing. “Dubai visa” reflects the destination people search for; “UAE visa” describes the country-level entry permission. Either way, the rules below are identical.
- For tourism and short visits only — not permission to work or live in the UAE
- Usually delivered electronically when approved
- Final approval always rests with the immigration authorities
Do you need a Dubai visa?
Whether you need advance approval depends on four connected factors — consider them together, not in isolation.
Passport nationality
The passport you present to the airline and UAE immigration is the main starting point. Some nationalities get entry on arrival; others need advance approval.
Check your nationality →Country of residence
A residence permit or ID from another country can affect which route applies — but it never replaces your passport.
Ask about your case →Existing visas
Some valid visas or residence permits from qualifying countries can open a conditional entry route for selected nationalities. Check the exact conditions before paying for an advance visa.

- Photograph — recent colour passport-style photo, plain light background.
- Travel details — flight booking and hotel reservation or host details.
- Supporting documents — residence permits, bank statements or family documents may be requested for some nationalities.
