Travelling to Dubai with children on Nepali passports? Here is the rule that shapes everything else: a child is a separate visa applicant. Adding a child to a parent's trip does not place the child on the parent's visa. Infants and older children each need their own passport and their own UAE visa application — though family applications submitted together are usually reviewed together.
Does a Nepali child need a Dubai visa?
Yes. A child travelling on a Nepali passport normally needs a pre-arranged UAE visa before travel. Age does not remove the passport or visa requirement — not even for a baby travelling with both parents.
One distinction worth knowing: visa documents and airline travel documents are related but not identical. A visa may be issued while the airline still asks for its own consent form, unaccompanied-minor booking, or evidence of who may collect the child. Handle both.
Documents needed for a Nepali child visa
Prepare one clear document set for each child:
1. The child's own Nepali passport. Machine-readable, with the bio page fully visible in colour and valid for at least six months from the travel date. Keep a colour copy of the outer cover too — some channels request it. A parent's passport cannot replace the child's passport.
2. A recent photograph of the child. Facing the camera, plain light background, face clear and centred — no filters, shadows, or covered eyes. For a baby, the frame should show only the child: no hands, chair backs, toys, or patterned bedding.
3. Birth certificate (plus translation if needed). This connects the child to the named parent or parents. UAE channels commonly ask for it in Arabic or English — if yours is only in Nepali, confirm the required translation and attestation route before uploading. Names and dates must match the passport; if a spelling differs because of marriage, adoption, or a legal change, include the document that explains it.
4. Parent or guardian documents. Colour passport copies for the parent or guardian on the application. If that person lives in the UAE, a valid residence visa or Emirates ID may also be requested. A legal guardian should carry the document proving authority to travel with the child.
5. Flight and accommodation records. The child's return or onward flight details and accommodation evidence, with dates matching the accompanying adult's itinerary. Keep booking names identical to the passports — no shortened names or family nicknames.
Which extra documents apply to your trip?
The basics stay the same; the travel arrangement decides the extras. Both parents travelling: both parents' passport copies plus the birth certificate, with consistent dates and accommodation across all files. One parent travelling: a signed consent letter and the non-travelling parent's identification may be requested (custody or death records apply in relevant cases). Guardian or solo travel: prepare guardian-authority and parental-consent documents, then confirm the airline's unaccompanied-minor rules before booking.
Consent requirements are case-specific — confirm the exact wording, signatures, and attestation before preparing any letter.
Check every child document before uploading
Minor applications often need a second review, because the child's record must match both the passport and the relationship documents. Check the whole family set together: full passport name exactly as on the bio page; date of birth identical across passport, birth certificate, application, and ticket; parents' names spelled consistently; complete page edges (never crop); readable translation attached to the source document; and one clearly labelled file set per child so siblings' records never mix.
Common mistakes in minor applications
Submitting only the parent's application and assuming the child is covered. Forgetting the birth certificate — a passport alone may not prove the relationship. Leaving a surname difference unexplained. Using an adult-style baby photo with hands in the frame. Booking the child on different travel dates than the family. And assuming the visa settles boarding — airlines run their own consent and unaccompanied-minor checks.
