UAE Visa Rules in 2026: What Travellers Should Know

UAE visa rules aren't mysterious — but they do change, and they depend on your nationality, your passport, and what you plan to do when you arrive. Here's the landscape as it stands in 2026, and how to read it correctly. One rule above all: before you book anything non-refundable, verify the current rules on an official source like u.ae, the GDRFA, or with your airline.

Who needs a visa in advance?

Many nationalities can get a visa on arrival or enter visa-free, and many others must arrange a visa before flying. There is no single list we can print here that stays accurate forever, because eligibility shifts with policy updates. The honest way to check is by your own nationality and passport type — ask us on WhatsApp or check your airline's travel-requirements page, and do it before you pay for flights.

The main visa types travellers use

Most visitors use one of these: a 30-day tourist visa (single or multiple entry) for short holidays, a 60-day tourist visa (single or multiple entry) for longer stays, and 48-hour or 96-hour transit visas for stopovers. The 48-hour transit visa is normally arranged through the airline you're flying with, so ask them first — the 96-hour version suits a two-to-four-day stopover.

Your passport matters as much as your nationality

Diplomatic, service, and special passport holders often have different entry conditions from ordinary passport holders of the same country. Turkish travellers are a good example: ordinary passport holders arrange a visa before travel, while green (special), service, and diplomatic passport holders are visa-exempt for short visits. Always travel on the same passport your visa was issued for.

Six-month passport validity is non-negotiable

Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your dates of travel. This is enforced at check-in by airlines, not just at UAE immigration — if you're short, you may not even board.

Single vs multiple entry

A single-entry visa lets you enter the UAE once; if you leave for Oman or anywhere else, it's used up. A multiple-entry visa lets you come and go within its validity. If your trip includes a side trip out of the country, multiple entry is the safe choice — it's cheaper than a second visa.

Entry and stay are two different clocks

A visa's validity (the window in which you must enter) and the permitted length of stay are separate numbers. A 30-day visa doesn't mean you can arrive any time and stay 30 days from whenever — check both dates on your issued visa and plan your flights inside them.

Don't rely on rumours

Visa rules attract more gossip than almost any travel topic. A friend's experience from two years ago, a viral video, or a forum post are not sources. When in doubt, check u.ae, GDRFA, your airline, or message us — that's literally what we're here for.

Visa on arrival: how it actually works

For eligible nationalities, a visa on arrival means exactly what it says — you land, present your passport, and receive entry permission at the immigration counter, usually for a stay of 30 to 90 days depending on your nationality. No application, no fee paid in advance, no sponsor. But "eligible" is doing all the work in that sentence: if you're not sure your nationality qualifies, check before you fly, because arriving without the right basis for entry is not a situation you want to negotiate at the counter.

Overstaying is the expensive mistake

Staying even one day past your permitted stay can trigger fines that accumulate daily, plus complications for any future UAE visa application. The fix is simple arithmetic: know the exact last day of your permitted stay, and book your departure a day or two before it, not on it. If your plans change mid-trip and you need more time, talk to a visa professional about your options before the visa expires — never after.

The one-paragraph summary

Know your nationality's requirement, travel on a passport valid six months out, get the right visa type before you fly, keep your entry window and stay length straight, and verify anything you're unsure about on u.ae, GDRFA, or with your airline. Everything else is detail — important detail, but detail.
