You need a Dubai visa before travel if your passport requires one and you do not qualify for an entry exemption. An Irish Residence Permit (IRP) is evidence of your permission to live in Ireland — it does not give every holder visa on arrival in the UAE.
This guide covers people living in the Republic of Ireland on foreign passports: students, workers, and family-permission holders. Start with your passport nationality, then check your Irish residence documents and travel dates.
Do Ireland residents need a visa for Dubai?
Residence and nationality answer different questions. Your Irish permission explains where you live; the passport you present determines your starting UAE entry route.
Visa before departure. Nigerian, Pakistani, Turkish, and Egyptian ordinary passport holders generally need an advance UAE visa. Holding an IRP alone does not remove that requirement.
Passport-based entry. Irish passport holders and many other eligible nationalities have an arrival or visa-exempt route. Check the passport you will actually use before paying for an application service.
Residence-based eligibility. Some passport holders can qualify for a special entry route through an eligible residence permit — the permit's validity and the current UAE conditions matter. The UAE's expanded residence-based eligibility covers India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa; EU member states are qualifying residence countries, which includes Ireland. A qualifying permit must meet the applicable validity conditions — currently at least six months for the residence-permit route. Check your documents against the official ICP eligibility update and confirm entry arrangements before flying.
Northern Ireland residents: this page covers the Republic of Ireland. If you live in Northern Ireland, use guidance for UK residents and the UK immigration permission you hold.
Dubai visa guides by passport nationality
Choose the passport you will travel on — each of our guides focuses on that passport together with residence in Ireland:
Turkish residents in Ireland · Nigerian residents in Ireland · Pakistani residents in Ireland
If your nationality is not listed, provide your passport country, document type, and Irish residence status when asking the application team to check your options. Eligibility to apply and the final immigration decision are separate matters.
Choose a Dubai tourist visa from Ireland
Count the time you intend to spend in the UAE and decide whether you will enter once or return during the trip — then check availability for your passport before selecting a service. See our 2026 price guide and the full visa types overview.
A flight connection does not automatically mean you need a tourist visa. If you remain airside, confirm the transfer and baggage arrangements with your airline. Collecting bags through immigration or leaving the airport brings UAE entry requirements into play.
Documents to prepare for a UAE visa from Ireland
For the standard single-entry tourist route, prepare: a clear travel-passport copy showing the full details page (at least six months' validity; keep a passport-cover image ready if requested); a recent photograph with a plain background and unobstructed face; both sides of your current IRP if requested (mention any pending replacement or renewal); your intended arrival and departure dates, accommodation or host details, and onward arrangements; and any additional documents from your nationality's checklist — it may differ between applicants in the same family.
Use the same passport details across your application and flight booking. Renewed your passport since your Irish permission was issued? Explain the mismatch before submission.
Check the return journey too
An IRP records your Irish immigration permission. Carry your passport and current residence evidence when travelling, and check your documents cover your expected return date.
Students, graduates, and workers: check residence-document expiry dates against the whole trip. If your course, job, or immigration permission is changing, resolve the travel-document position before booking a visit that crosses that change.
Renewals and family travel: a renewal receipt is different from an in-date IRP card. If your card is expired, missing, or still being issued, check current return requirements with Irish Immigration Service Delivery and your airline — and check every family member's documents separately, including children.
Example: you plan a ten-day Dubai holiday, but your IRP expires before your return flight. A UAE visa addresses entry into Dubai; you still need to resolve the documents required for returning to Ireland.
How to apply for a Dubai visa from Ireland
1. Confirm your entry route. Give your passport nationality, Irish residence status, and proposed dates — and confirm the application service is available for your circumstances.
2. Select your stay and entries. Choose the available option matching your itinerary, then review the total assisted-service price.
3. Enter your details and upload files. Copy names, dates, and passport numbers carefully; use readable documents without cropped edges.
4. Review and submit. Check each traveller's record, included services, and payment terms. Keep your application reference.
5. Check the issued visa. After approval, confirm the name, passport number, entry deadline, and permitted stay before travelling.
You can prepare your application while living in Ireland; submission does not guarantee approval. Ask for the current processing estimate after your documents are checked — allow time for additional requests, weekends, and your departure date. A quoted estimate is not an immigration deadline or a guarantee.
Questions about visiting Dubai from Ireland
Does an Irish Residence Permit give me visa on arrival in Dubai?
Not automatically. Entry eligibility depends on your passport and any qualifying residence-based conditions.
Can students living in Ireland apply for a Dubai visa?
Yes, subject to the application route available for their passport and circumstances. Check the documents for both the Dubai visit and your return to Ireland.
Can I travel if my IRP renewal is pending?
Check return requirements with Irish Immigration Service Delivery and the airline before departure. UAE entry permission and permission to return to Ireland are separate checks.
Can family members use one Dubai visa?
Do not assume one visa covers the family. Check entry permission and documents for every traveller, including children — family members may have different passport nationalities.
Does a single-entry visa cover a second visit to Dubai?
No — a single-entry visa is for one entry. If you leave the UAE and plan to return, check whether you need a multiple-entry permit or a new visa.
